01. Project Introduction

NOCTURNE is a concept case study designed for the boutique hospitality and fine-dining sector. It demonstrates how to evoke atmosphere and culinary craft online while respecting the reality that most guests browse on a smartphone shortly before booking.

02. Client & Business Context

Many restaurant websites frustrate guests by locking their menu inside unscalable PDF downloads or hiding essential information like opening hours, dietary options, and booking links behind heavy animations.

03. The Original Challenge

How can we translate an intimate evening dining atmosphere into the browser while making the seasonal tasting menu, dietary filters, and table booking accessible with a single thumb tap?

STRATEGIC PROBLEM DEFINITION

04. Project Objectives

  • 01Eliminate downloadable PDFs in favor of a responsive, multilingual HTML tasting menu.
  • 02Provide an instant menu switcher (Signature Tasting / Botanical Vegan / Wine Pairing).
  • 03Surface essential guest logistics (hours, location, dress code, dietary notes) with zero friction.
  • 04Include a dedicated inquiry flow for Private Dining and exclusive events.

05. Research, Assumptions & Strategy

We structured the user journey for two guest mindsets: visitors ready to book have immediate access to the reservation trigger and practical details, while curious diners can explore the chef’s seasonal philosophy and provenance notes.

Deliverables:
  • Atmospheric art direction & culinary storytelling
  • Interactive HTML tasting menu (eliminating clunky PDFs)
  • Table reservation & private dining inquiry flow
  • Mobile-first multilingual implementation (PL/EN/DE)
  • Local SEO foundations & Restaurant Schema.org data

06. Visual Direction & Moodboard

A nocturnal palette of deep obsidian (#101010) and warm charcoal (#191919) contrasted against a tactile cream menu sheet (#F3F0EA) and crisp lime accents.

07. Information Architecture

  1. 01Atmospheric hero with evening service status and primary booking CTA

  3. 03Culinary philosophy, local provenance, and kitchen craft section
  4. 04Private Dining & corporate hospitality showcase
  5. 05Reservation module & practical guest logistics

08. UX Structure & User Journey

Switching between the Signature and Botanical menus happens inline without page reloads or scroll jumps, allowing guests to compare courses effortlessly.

09. User Interface (UI) Design

The tasting menu section sits on a warm alabaster surface (#F3F0EA) inspired by heavy cotton menu stock, ensuring effortless legibility.

10. Motion Design & Interactions

Smooth transitions between tasting menu chapters and subtle reveals of sommelier pairing notes on interaction.

11. Responsive Design (Mobile / Tablet / Desktop)

Optimized for on-the-go mobile guests: map directions, dietary policies, and table booking are reachable within one second on smartphones.

12. Development & Technical Implementation

Includes structured Restaurant Schema.org markup (opening hours, cuisine, menu URL, location) across Polish, English, and German for strong local search visibility.

13. Final Website Presentation

The final presentation showcases the contrast between the nocturnal hero section and the tactile, typographic tasting menu sheet.

14. Architectural Takeaways & Concept Value

  • Replaces frustrating PDF menus with a fast, search-indexable, and mobile-friendly interactive HTML menu.
  • Balances emotional culinary storytelling with immediate practical utility for guests.
  • Full PL/EN/DE localization welcomes international travelers and corporate guests.
